Joint Labor-Management Advisory Committee on Special Education

The Special Education Joint Labor-Management Advisory Committee operates to improve and maintain communication between the LEA and Lexington Public Schools Administration on issues specific to special education.  The Committee includes the Superintendent of Schools, a School Committee member, and an equal number of members selected by the Association and Administration. The JLMAC will meet quarterly or more frequently at the discretion of the committee with meetings posted on the district-wide calendar. The JLMAC will:

  • Collect and review system-wide data for “Special Education Caseload” to monitor compliance with the contract, including but not limited to caseload and discretionary time.
  • Propose solutions as needed, including a menu of options that would be implemented promptly by the JLMAC
  • Monitor equitability no less than three times during the school year (fall, winter, and spring)
Share data with the respective parties including but not limited to caseload numbers, evaluation numbers, loss of discretionary time, and open Unit C positions.
